Bloody hell, bit dusty in here!

I'm active in Les Mis these days, but do want to dive back into my beloved Sherlock Holmes and Victorian soldiery and Age of Sail fandom activity too, so have decided to resurrect this DW for all fanwork, and march merrily onwards.

*flail*flail*flail*flail*flail*too much to get DONE*maybe a couple of hours' kip wouldn't hurt*

Two hours' sleep last night, and I'm bloody knackered; thought just taking a pic would be quick-and-easy, and mean I was tucked up in bed with the cat sprawling on me by now. Apparently not. :P

Naarmamo - Day #2 )

So, Day 1 of NAARMAMO, and I had no idea what to do. I was, to paraphrase Edmund Blackadder, more stuck than Sticky the Stick Insect when he got stuck on a sticky bun, and hoping I could somehow make a better show of it than last year's rather less-than-impressive total of four drawings...

...and I still need a bloody scanner. :P

However. After an hour spent scribbling aimlessly on the pad...upon rereading today's post in [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo , I saw once more someone's rather lovely painting of a camel I had earlier admired: and lo, I instantly declared it CAMEL TIEM.

So, here we go. Freehand, with a screenshot from The Four Feathers used for reference, photographed to the best of mine and a wheezy, vampirically battery-draining camera's ability...soldierboyo on camel. (I know I have repeatedly bitched about the inclusion of red coats in The Four Feathers, but if they can operate entirely on Rule Of Pretty, then so can I.)

...but it expresses my feelings most eloquently. [Original sketch here.]

"On May Day '97
The Tory junta fell -
A great night for the people!
And the morning after - hmm, well..."
~ Robb Johnson, Not A Bad Week for the People

Which is why the fact it's such a close-run race (and may result in the HUNG PARLIAMENT OF DOOM) qualifies as a vaguely optimistic state of affairs... Went and voted. Had been considering a tactical vote for the Liberal Democrats, but personal conscience and principle and having clocked up over a decade in the Socialist Party won out, so my cross was scrawled firmly beside the candidate for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (a.k.a. my mate Steve).

C'mon, then. Hung parliament? Bring it on, you bastards. Has to be better than going back to the dark days of Tory majority:

Archiving an offering I made for the [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti auction: 25 LJ icons. These were purchased by [livejournal.com profile] spiletta42 , who very kindly said they did not mind if the icons were shareable. Thank you for that, and again for the donation! :D

Item #25796 in the list of Benefits of British Multiculturalism: being able to find an open shop and buy those essential festive items of catfood, milk and cigarettes on Christmas Day. :D (And pizza for one's Christmas Dinner. Yay.)

Merry Christmas, everyone. :)

Also, big thank-you to [livejournal.com profile] redconverse  for the Card With Moustaches! XD

Update later. I've been quiet lately thanks to a dose of The Cold From Hell. :P

Dear bus company,

Four buses in a row complately failing to turn up = taking the piss in a major way.

Four buses in a row completely failing to turn up on a rainy, dark, cold evening = Wolfie going postal.

A commute of under 6 miles between work and home should not take me two hours to complete. Even on public transport. I could have walked it in less time.

Nicer entry to follow when I'm on the outside of about three more mugs of tea. :P

I know that subtitling programmes is a thankless job. That subtitlers are, on the whole, dedicated and conscientious people, providing a valuable service. And that we all make mistakes.

However...

Slightly pic-heavy. )

Edward Woodward (he of the superb performances in Breaker Morant, The Wicker Man and a stack of other notable roles) has died.

Sigh. Very sad news.

79 is a good innings, but still too soon. Rest in peace, lad. You were brilliant.

My kettle just broke.

My KETTLE just BROKE.

The little red light is coming on, and I've tried plugging it into another socket, but it's not doing anything else (such as, y'know, actually heating the water). No, it's just sitting there smugly. Stone-cold.

For any international LJ-ers who might be reading this and wondering why I see fit to be kicking off about it, let me assure you that if you're British, kettle-b0rkage is a serious situation. It means you CAN'T HAVE TEA.

:cue much wailing, gnashing of teeth, and similar:

:deep breath: Alrighty-then. Come on, Wolfie. Think this through. If British troops were capable, in the midst of the Normandy Landings, of stopping halfway-up Sword Beach to brew tea whilst under enemy fire*, then you have not the least grounds to claim you can't manage producing a cuppa in vastly more tranquil conditions.

*I am not making this up.

The little camping kettle is currently lost (most likely lurking under a large pile of muddy wool and bandoliers from the last time I used it), so mess-tin on the camping-stove it is, then...

Because everyone else is posting Teh Shiny New Sherlock Holmes Trailer (and shiny it is, specially the bull-pup. Film still looks still daft as a brush, but a rather more entertaining prospect than I previously supposed), and I want in on the action... ;)

...I present this rather well-executed take on one of the earlier ones. (Not my work, I'm just reposting it here.)

Before I get cracking on the huge pile of comments I need to leave/reply to (having once again been neglecting LJ and all you wonderful people, sorry, she grovels), apropos of nothing...

The 4 drawings I did manage to finish. :P Not terribly brilliant, but hey.

All worksafe.

Apologies for the slightly unfocused photography. I was reduced to blu-tacking a few of the pics to an outside window, leaning my elbows on a plastic bin to keep them steady, and snapping them on my mobile phone to get any sort of decent lighting for the photographs. I wish I was making this up... :P

Bloody hell, I need a scanner.

I also refuse to apologise for multiple Murrays, when the whole point of Naarmamo is (I suppose) meant to produce a variety of subjects. It's my damned LJ... ;)

On with the motley...

Mood absolutely not improved by the latest UK European election results. I'm working on a challenge fic and F5-ing the Beeb's running totals page every so often between paragraphs.

One seat to the BNP so far. Fuck.

Bloody UKIP (who are almost as bad) have four. Whut? MPs' expenses scandal backlash...

Tories storming it with seven (and over a million votes).

Labour trailing along with four.

Minor bright spot: Three for the Lib Dems, and one for Plaid Cymru. :)

Grr. Come on, Greens. I sacrificed a potential Socialist Labour vote in favour of you, in the name of keeping out the BNP. You don't even have a single seat yet!

East Midlands [my region] hasn't yet declared.
