New Year's resolutions:

 - Post to journal more often. Endeavour to avoid making these a rant every time.

 - Leave feedback on others' offerings far more promptly, not in large clumps every six weeks.

 - Stop the excuses already and finish all those half-done fic and art projects. Also, acknowledge self's limitations with paints. My clothing, carpet and cat will all thank me for the latter.

 - Participate in the discussions on Holmesslash. Nobody will eat me if I say something stupid.

 - Learn to drive and get the car moving. Attractive eco-garden-sculpture as an ancient VW Golf covered by Triffid-esque weeds in one's back yard is, it would be nice not to have to manhandle three rucksacks, a tent,. a sword and a musket onto public transport for fifteen battle events a year.

 - Win the Booker Prize. (Well, a woman can dream...)

 - Beg/cajole/plead/blackmail/threaten/work self onto PhD course somewhere.

 - Find new job.

Work was a nightmare today. Serious illness of a colleague means I am now required to cover by trying to jam 150% of the average full-time workload into average full-time hours, which ain't working.  (Feel guilty even moaning about  this because of poor colleague and what she's going through... :-S) Boss is also taking on a ton of extra stuff, so it's not only me...but I haven't been instructed in what to do for half of it, and spent a good few hours attempting to work out the Byzantine accounting lists of proofs and proofreaders today. Also, some of it involves calculating readers' wages. Argh! That is not an area where errors can be made. I may have to insist on all that work being triple-checked for a week or so.

Also, just found out that the logistical reorganisation elsewhere in the building means the colleague who will be moving into the back office of our dept. is none other than the same guy I (unofficially) chewed out over sending Islamophobic emails. This should be interesting. [rollseyes] I'm just hoping he keeps his mouth shut.

On a brighter note (in accordance with aforementioned resolutions ;-) )...Mr. Wolfie is now home from yonder Scotland (hurrah!), and the cat and I had a marvellous half-hour of fun with a cardboard box and a fluffy snake tonight. And 'My Dearest Holmes' is winging its way to me from the online Waterstones even as I type. Published slash, yay! XD

Oh, and opening the post at work today, it turned out that my rights contacts at Headline publishers had sent me a little box of chocolates for Christmas. That was rather brilliant. :-) Please purchase Headline books; if their profits increase nicely this year, it  might be an even bigger box next January. ;-) They made a perfectly good breakfast, and I'm just finishing off the last one now. Yum.

A very happy new year to all, and best wishes for a lovely 2008!

ETA, as threatened...

<----- Me. In pretty C19th uniform. Lookin' grim an' soldierlike.

Yay! for the good news (see, I've got exclamation marks again :o) ), and fingers crossed for the good resolutions.

Seems we all need a new job.

You have a sword? *faints* Of course I have a sword, too (well, in fac,t several). Elena, too. Of course. Camp events. Show fights. Medieval festivals. I'll be damned.

How many others have swords here? Admit.

Just for you, this very special icon of my humble self... ;o)

And again, have a very good new year. Indeedy.

Ah, ta. :-)

You two have *multiple* swords? Ooh. Now I'm jealous. I think we all need a Sword And Interestingly Pointy Items discussion/bragging session sometimes. With pictures. I had some great axes once, when I did Viking...they were pretty swish. :-D

I do English Civil War and Napoelonic. See edited entry for a gorgeous example of me doing my finest "Bloody weather. Bloody war. Bloody Sharpe." impression.

It is a beautiful, ethereal, atmospheric item indeed. Is that general blade-adulation in it, or are you about to stab somebody? ;-)
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008 06:59 pm (UTC)
Btw, gorgeous specimen on your icon.

It is adulation, of course, supposed to look romantic. See the mist. Feel the... whatever.

Ooh, axes, we don't have those. Yes, a pointy bits discussion must be. :o)
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008 07:22 pm (UTC)
Him, her or both? ;-) I go with both.

We have hordes of greenjacket 95thers in the NA, about half an army's worth. Simply can't imagine why. ;-) (They let us perfidious Frenchies win at the last one I went to, though, as it was Bastille Day. Bless.)

I go with him.

Ah, that might be a bit of a problem. *ogles someone...*

Oh blast, I go with him, anyway. Teehee.

Participate in the discussions on Holmesslash. Nobody will eat me if I say something stupid.

I wish I could do the same resloution.
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 09:41 pm (UTC)
That's easy: Say after me: "I will participate in the discussions on holmesslash, even if I'm too drunk, didn't get the point, or go totally off topic." (All of which has happened to me, and here I am, un-eaten.)
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 10:04 pm (UTC)
Maybe I should get drunk to get more courage, bwehe :DD
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 09:50 pm (UTC)
We should encourage each other. :-) I don't know about you, but I end up typing madly, then letting it all shyly fizzle out with a puff, unsent...maybe we need to bite the bullet a little more.

On the other hand, you've done Fives recently (which have been fab!) plus your gorgeous artwork contributions this year have been sufficient to fill a book. Or several. :-)

(I'm doing the canon discussion in a fortnight. Eep! o.o)

I will if you will... ;-)

Umm...are you me?

Haha! :DD

Aww..thanks !
Hey! I just had an idea...what was my first one last year...umm...this one! I could re-do it just for fun :D

Oh,
And canon discussions?
I could never do that - it would only be something like "uhmm...you all know the story? If not go read it? now, please talk...uhm. Bye."
I would have to learn to think smartly in English first. And in Finnish too, for that matter...:P

Ahhh...I have a soft spot a mile wide for "Flirt Biscuits", lassie, it was one of your first artworks I found. :-D Coy!Watson is always a treat.

I've noticed your style has changed a fair bit this year; it seems much more fluid and confident. So I'd be interested to see how you'd re-vamp it, if you do...

I have had exactly One idea for the canon discussion, and it's one of those tortuous, text-twisting, sounds-so-good-at-3am ones that I managed to scramble through uni on the strength of. Praying for inspiration here. Still, it's 'Gloria Scott', and as you might have guessed, I love speculating on H/W exes. ;-) More 'taches to play with. Excellent.

To reiterate: methinks both you & I need a kick of Post And Be Damned. Think positive thoughts.

You could always post in Finnish... ;-)

I see the_callum preempted me on the sword comment, lol.

Re My Dearest Holmes, I think you won't regret it. Published slash. Many of us probably would have written it differently, but still! Published slash!

I'm sending some encouraging vibes re the holmesslash resolution. Considering some of the things I've said, plus the fact that I haven't been eaten yet, should serve to support your assumption.
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 09:55 pm (UTC)
Yes! Swords! *Lots* of! Please post photos... I only have the one, and she's getting rather lonely...she needs international blade pr0n, and urgently. ;-)

Oh, good re MDH - it was on offer and only a few quid. My Christmas present to myself.

Y'know, I misread your post as "I haven't eaten yet", which initally appeared to support a previous assumption... ;-)

Thank you muchly for the vibes. :-) I have a ton of unsent stuff sitting on my hard drive. It's getting quite ridiculous.
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008 07:26 pm (UTC)
Teehee, I misread it, too, and was already about to go feeding. *lol*

Once a day, really, I'd be starving.

But anyway, your assumption is rather... right. ;o)

Happy New Year! I'll get to your FB message eventually. RL is kicking my backside at the moment.

I've got one sword (inscribed in Arabic with passages from the Koran), a kris, a couple of daggers, some blowguns, and what not lying about. Don't ask. Hubby has this thing where he must purchase some sort of weapon from every country he visits. The sword this far is my fav and it is sharp and long...

Sorry work sucks...and yes this is the year of job slumps...we take em where we can get em I suppose. Hopefully things will look up this coming year.

Ah..Ph.D. program...Come, join the rest of us...

About me folks...I’m not the least bit offended by you asking. I’ve always been a bit of an Anglophile, more than likely from my dad’s side. He's from the colonies, now a former colony, Trinidad and Tobago. He was born a British citizen but as soon as he was old enough he fled, quite rapidly I may add, to the United States. He became a naturalized citizen and has remained here ever since. He introduced me to Monty Python, Are You Being Served, Faulty Towers, Dr. Who, Max Von Sydow, Alec Guiness, Guinness, curry, beef, potatoes, goose, you get the point...some Brit-isms. He disliked the colonial system, however...

Ok...end of dissertation. Many warm tidings in the New Year!!

(Goodness, no worries re FB, I am by no means a prompt correspondent with my own tortuous ramblings, as you know.)

And we have a raise of the bar with *pretty* swords! Sounds gorgeous; I hope we shall see it in the future virtual LJ steel-adoration-fest. :-D So Mr. Bones has acquired an eclectic collection of international arms, eh? Extremely cool (ok, that sounds very suave, but I must admit to an "OMG, you have blowguns, how 'Sussex Vampire', that's amazing!" moment just there); and incidentally must make it *very* interesting going through customs on the way back...

Thanks for the good wishes - work was a bit easier today, boss is making noises to the higherups about the workload. I'm hoping I can at least wangle my way onto a course at the uni for '09 or '10. Lack of MA is apparently not a problem, but lack of finance is the bugger at the moment. :-P

Thank you for sharing about your folks - I was sure you must have a dash of this green and pleasant land somewhere within you!, and that explains that; really interesting. Your dad sounds like a fine ambassador for the better aspects of Britishness (though I am definitely with him on colonialism). And I am ashamed to admit I have never once knowingly eaten goose. Or drunk Guinness. (But do adore Alec, naturally.)

Happy New Year to you too!
